Art et al. X Ketemu

Art et al. is pleased to announce the completion and share the outcomes of Art et al. X Ketemu, a collaborative digital partnership between the UK, Indonesia and Australia that happened across 2022–23. Funded by the British Council through their International Collaboration Grants and the Australia Council for the Arts, it fostered eight collaborations between artists that identify with and without disabilities.

Peer to Peer

From March–May 2023, disabled Indonesian artist Winda Karunadhita collaborated with Australian artist Mawarini. Follow their project, including a meeting in-person, below.

Curating Collections

For this Curating Collections, Venture Arts’ artist Sally Hirst was paired with the Indonesian collection from the family of Mia Tjahjadi. All the works in the collection are by Indonesian and Balinese artists.

The outcome is Sally’s curated project ‘Elements of Bali’ presenting a diverse mix of artwork that reminded Sally of the four elements: fire, air, earth and water. Discover their project below.

In late 2022 into early 2023, Indonesian artist Karin Josephine collaborated with London-based artist Christian Newby. Find out more about each artist and follow their international project below.

Curatorial Mentorship

For this Curatorial Mentorship, Indonesian curator Ignatia Nilu was paired with UK based studio artist Toyin Olubamiwo. Le Visible et l’invisible (The Visible and The Invisible) brings together 10 artists from the UK and Indonesia, whose practice features superheroes and cartoon characters directly or indirectly, as well as showcasing their sketchbook works. Curating Collections

For this Curating Collections, Butong (Sukri Budi Dharma) was paired with the Roberts Institute of Art. Butong is an Indonesian artist and activist whose work is rooted in advocating for access for disabled people in art practices. The Roberts Institute of Art (RIA) is a non-profit contemporary arts organisation, part of whose mission is to research and share the David and Indre Roberts Collection.

The outcome is Butong’s curated project #BehindInterest presenting a selection of international artworks. Discover their project below

Curatorial Mentorship

For this Curatorial Mentorship, which took place over May - July 2022, British curator Matt Burrows, worked with Indonesian artist Lala Nurlala to develop Lala’s curated project FANDOMONIUM which presents a diverse group of international artists that explore fandom and pop culture through the lens of fan-art, appropriation, subversion, and cross-cultural exchange.
